#Isaiah 53:7-12
MSG

He was #beaten, he was #tortured, but he didn’t say a word. Like a #lamb taken to be #slaughtered and like a #sheep being sheared, he took it all in silence. #Justice miscarried, and he was led off— and did anyone really know what was happening? He died without a thought for his own welfare, beaten bloody for the #sins of my people. They buried him with the wicked, threw him in a #grave with a rich man, Even though he’d never hurt a soul or said one word that wasn’t true. Still, it’s what #God had in mind all along, to crush him with pain. The plan was that he give himself as an offering for sin so that he’d see life come from it—life, life, and more life. And God ’s plan will deeply #prosper through him. Out of that terrible travail of soul, he’ll see that it’s worth it and be glad he did it. Through what he experienced, my #righteous one, my servant, will make many “righteous ones,” as he himself carries the burden of their sins. Therefore I’ll reward him extravagantly— the best of everything, the highest honors—
Because he looked death in the face and didn’t flinch, because he embraced the company of the lowest. He took on his own shoulders the sin of the many, he took up the cause of all the black sheep.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Matt 11:28 (NLT). Like we talked about yesterday, #shame and #guilt can often cause us to #reject Jesus’ invitation to ‘come to him’. Sometimes the things we think will ease our #burdens and #rejuvenate our #weariness, only mock us and bring us further down. Maybe it’s a person you went to for help, or a habit that is now a #controlling #addiction, a #relationship that’s #unhealthy, that has taught you to keep your mouth and heart shut and just go on #pretending that everything is OK.
Jesus will never #reject you. When you come to Him with your burdens and tired souls, He will never laugh at you, point His finger at you, tell you that you should have done better… He is our #trustworthy and #humble #teacher, our gentle #father, and our mighty and true #Savior.
Some of us, through our choices and experiences, have conjured up this idea that Jesus wants to #punish us when we bring our tired hearts and heavy lives to him. It’s quite the opposite. It’s a holy moment, its the cross in action, #grace outworked, #hope realized, the #power of #God made manifest, the blood of Jesus flowing freely. Its actually why He went to the cross, died and rose again - so that He could be our SAVIOR… Meaning, to SAVE US… Meaning, that its ok for us to need saving. In our western culture, we have to work really hard at debunking the myth that Jesus only wants perfect people who have everything together. All Jesus wants is you and me, everyone everywhere, in any state or situation… He alone has the tools and skills, the knowledge and grace to put back together and #rebuild our lives. Piece by piece, day by day, moment by moment.
It’s His honor and privilege, the fulfilment of #HISpurpose, to exchange our weary, tired and heavy hearts for His #perfect and unexplainable rest.
When you come to #Jesus, you will not find pointed fingers, or hear “I told you so”… You will find rest for your souls. It’s His gift to you. Have a restful day no matter how busy you may be…#devotional #pocketfuel #salvation #holyweek

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. #Matt 11:28 (NLT). At 13 years old, I really wanted a word from God. So being the spiritual teenager that I was, I tried the old ‘flip and point’. It’s where you close your eyes, open your #bible, flip through the pages, randomly point at a page and open your eyes…
One night, I opened my eyes on this verse. It spoke to me back then, but now, as an adult and many seasons since then, this verse has ministered to my heart and life through everything. It’s like a reflex to want something to #comfort and #reassure you when you’re in #pain… And each of us have different things that we ‘reflex’ to when faced with certain situations. We reach out to all kinds of things to bring us that inner #rest and #peace that our souls #crave. #Work, #food, #alcohol, #drugs, #relationships, #TV, #fantasy, #games, #sport, the #internet… And all the while, #Jesus is calling “Come to me…” The open #invitation with no #RSVP, a standing reservation, a constant and immovable request: “Come to me…” We are taught that being weary and carrying heavy #burdens is something to be #ashamed of. And this shame and ‘wanting to do better, please people’ is what keeps us from the very one who can free us from it. I think getting weary and heavy is just life. Life happens - every day… Sometimes good life happens, and sometimes bad #life happens. But every time, in the light and airy, or weary and heavy, we can unashamedly accept Jesus’ invitation for rest. If we could maintain our own #spiritual energy and get rid of our own burdens, why would we need Jesus? 2 Cor 12:9 says “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I [Paul] will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of #Christ may rest upon me.” So if you’re feeling weary, and burdens are tight around your neck, don’t be downcast, don’t shrug away in shame… But come boldly into His presence. It’s with Jesus, there you will find true rest. Teach your heart to ‘reflex’ to Him in every season. #devotional #pocketfuel

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. #John 13:35 (NIV)

I’m not sure where the idea originated that #perfectionism was the true sign of following #Christ, but that idea completely misrepresents the #Gospel and everything #Jesus did through the cross. YES, we should strive to live a life being #obedient to God and following His ways… But the very reason we need Jesus is because, on our own, we are fallible… It’s by #grace we are saved, and it’s by grace that we live in His presence daily. Grace is not a prize for reaching a standard of perfectionism; grace is the spring board from which we live our human life #empowered by a #supernatural God. Obedience comes through #relationship and #trust… The more we grow and walk with Jesus, the more we can follow Him and understand His ways, the more He empowers and #strengthens us in our #weaknesses.
The way people should be able to identify us as #Christians is not by our perfect ‘white picket fence’ lives, but by our raw and #unshakablelove for each other and #humanity. It’s a #love that covers a multitude of #sins. It’s a love that #embraces and #encourages, that #inspires and #comforts. Love is not limited by our actions when it comes to the love of God. Instead of striving for perfection, work at smothering your life with #kindness, #compassion, #hope, #courage, #strength, #joy, #peace - the kind that only comes from Jesus - the kind of love that people will only experience at the hand of God and sometimes, His hand at work in our lives towards others.
Being a #disciple isn’t about academics, or perfection, or becoming a Christian clone - it’s about understanding and growing in the love of God. It’s from the heart that the issues of life flow (#Proverbs 4:23), so stop trying to fix everything - you and everyone - by behavior modification… Allow the love of God to completely #transform you from the inside out, and then pass it on to others… that’s the true mark of Christ follower… Bless you guys. #devotional #pocketfuel

Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Rev 3:20 (NLT)

This scripture comes from a message that God was sending the Church at Laodicea. This church seemingly had wealth and prominence, but on the inside was “wretched & miserable” (Rev 3:17). God also said to them in v15-16 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” Their indifferent heart and complacency towards the things of God was corrupting them from the inside out - Keeping God and His power at bay, locked outside of their situation. With my imagination, I see people sitting inside a beautiful house, talking of their accomplishments and conquests, when up to the front door walks The King and knocks. Because they think they have true wealth, and are so preoccupied with it, they don’t even hear the ‘knock knock’ at the door… They keep the King outside, unaware of His grandeur and ignorant of His lavish and rich love.
It’s so easy to become so enamoured with your own situation - good or bad - and lose the ability to hear and see above and beyond it. The ‘lukewarm’ that is mentioned here in Revelation (there is so much commentary you can read on this account) refers to a sense of indifference, ignorance - not in the sense of not knowing, but having once known and no longer caring. Whatever is going on in your life today - maybe the noise of disappointment is deafening, or the sight of your success is so bright it’s #blinding - never allow yourself to be indifferent to the ‘knock knock’ of Jesus upon your heart. He’s not trying to get your attention to bring you down… He wants to ‘share’ with you… Eat with you… And enter into your life as #Savior and #friend.
Keep your ears to the ground and your eyes always watching for Him. He is constantly speaking to you, always sending you His love and grace, and always knocking, bringing new words, plans, and hope into your life. Open that door today friends…#devotional #christian #church #God #jesus #pocketfuel

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. #Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

I don’t know about you, but I have definitely asked #God, on many occasions, if He knows what He’s doing when it comes to my #life and His plan for it. With the general chaos of living going on around me, at times it seems like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. It can feel #hopeless and #God-absent. It’s not until I’m on the other end of those times that I realise He was there all along, #protecting me, and #guiding me. #Working it all for good and ultimately #Hisglory. I love how the Message starts off this famous verse “I know what I’m doing…” It’s a #promise you have to constantly remind yourself of in those #challenging #seasons. You have to keep lifting your eyes off the circumstance, as all-#consuming as they can be, and focus on the promise. He is there. He won’t leave and He will use it to direct you onto His plans to give you a future and hope. What you’re going through now is not where things will end… it’s a #promise! It’s His promise! So today, whatever you face, instead of asking God if He knows what He’s doing, ask Him what it is He wants to do in you. The #Psalmist writes “Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the Godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.” (#Psalms 37:25). Today, #trust that God knows what He’s doing and has your situation all planned out… This is the peace that surpasses all understanding that #Philippians 4 speaks of! Have the best day… #praying for ya! #pocketfuel #devotional #christian #outersparklefaith
